Michael's Bay Historical Society: Mission Statement

Michael's Bay Historical Society

is a not for profit organization dedicated to preserving the history and artifacts of the Michael's Bay ghost town located in Tehkummah township on beautiful Manitoulin Island. We wish to preserve the history and artifacts for all of our citizens and visitors to enjoy and to educate others about Manitoulin's first permanent settlement.

Our goal is to protect the town site, which includes several cemeteries from commercial or residential development. Tehkummah Township governance
has indicated it's willingness to help with preservation efforts.

Ultimately, we hope to purchase the town site property from the current owners who wish to develop it. The property in question is currently owned by foreign investors and we are confident that in time, a mutual agreement may be reached for the benefit of both parties.
